The Worst Advice We've Heard About Double Pushchair

Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around in the lightweight double pushchair especially if you have children with different ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down the steps.

small double stroller  offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom, adjustable reclining and huge UPF 50+ canopies with windows that peek out. It also comes with a smart frame that can be expanded to accommodate a second seat and compatible car seat(s).

Side-by-Side

The majority of lightweight double pushchairs we test are side-byside models and are best suited for kids who can stand up without assistance, as these models tend to be lacking car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have adjustable recline in both seats, a huge canopy, and padded 5-point harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their larger footprints, and are ideal for parents who worry about fitting into doorways.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands in width to accommodate a second seat, which makes it lighter than most other side-by-side pushchairs available. It is able to fit through standard doors and is easy to maneuver on public transportation. It also doubles as a jogger which is a great feature when you're planning to use it with baby carriers or a car seat. It's also available in a variety of fun colors.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another great side-by-side, lightweight double. It provides additional flexibility due to the modular frame. It's a clever design that allows you to convert it into a single stroller or a double by incorporating two car seats or carrycots (it can even take twins). It is a practical option for growing families. The umbrella stroller UPPAbaby is one of the lightest, sexiest and most stylish available.

Try the egg2 which folds down to the size and weight of a compact suitcase. It can be used as a single or double with the addition of 2 carrycots or infant car seats, and our home testers loved how simple and sleek it was to handle even when loaded with children.

Although they're lightweight, double pushchairs that are side-by-side aren't foolproof. If your children are of the same age and stage, they might be fighting over who sits in which seat. If they're at different heights, the tandem model could be the best option for them, since it allows them to face eachother.

Tandem

While side-byside models are more suitable for siblings of similar ages, tandem lightweight double strollers have their own charms. Some can fit an extra car seat, while others have reversible seats. Others have an extra carrycot or a convertible seat in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and easy to get in and out of however their baskets tend to be smaller than the ones on single buggies. They often have larger canopy with windows that peek out and padding for the leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach tandem is another good example of a lightweight tandem that provides an excellent value. The fabric is a little less expensive than our other top-rated tandems, but it looks and feels great and is easy to use. One of the most impressive things about it is the one-handed fold - although it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab declared it to be "genius". The carrycot cannot be folded when it is attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.

Tandem strollers that are lightweight usually make tighter turning than side-by-side models. However, they may be harder to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.

Another alternative is a convertible double buggy which is initially one-person, but you can add adapters to make it into a double. These can include a second seat or carrycot in front or children can be seated side-by-side. Some of them also have the option of incorporating a buggy board, which could help an older child keep up with younger siblings.

The Uppababy Vista V2 is a good example of a convertible, because it can also be converted into a twin pram by the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) that provide a flat space for newborns. These can be placed on top of each other or positioned to one another and you can use them in conjunction with the infant car seat that is included with the pushchair (as long as you choose a compatible one). Since they are made of high-quality materials, these types of buggies that are dual-use can be used for a long time without showing much wear, meaning they have an excellent price resales.

Single-to-Double

Ideal for families who love to be outdoors and want to upgrade their single stroller, this lightweight double buggy transforms into a jogger thanks a nifty kit that includes air-filled tyres and all-wheel suspension. It can also withstand rough terrain well and it's a tandem triple that, is perfect for twins or children of various ages. It's a great option for parents who want a sleek design that is as sleek as a single and is available in a variety of colors.

This iCandy model is incredibly easy to fold using a single-handed system. It's heavier than other single-to double pushchairs, but our home test Karolina says it's still very capable of maneuvering even with two toddlers inside and the carrycot.

You can buy add-ons like the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) which are great for babies. Our panel of testers found that the seats were comfortable for toddlers, with good headrests and lumbar support. There are many options for reclined seats with the front seat can be adjusted to different positions, and the back seat offering an option to recline.

The main drawback to this type of buggy is that it tends to be wider overall than side-by-side doubles and makes it difficult to get through doorways and is difficult to maneuver around kerbs. However the suspension and wheels on these types of strollers generally are capable of handling paved surfaces, and the fact that they're usually lighter than the side-by-sides, means you still have a decent amount of storage space. These strollers aren't easy to maneuver in supermarkets with narrow aisles and they might struggle to carry loads. Although it's easier to turn the stroller around on a narrow, curving path, this can be a hassle. Some are more easy to turn than other, such as the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

Convertible double pushchairs are great because they can be adjusted to the changing needs of a family. Often, they start as single buggies, and include adapters that permit you to add a second child's chair or carrycot, or (in some cases) the car seat to the frame. Some even convert to a single as your older child begins to walk more or prefers to ride on a buggy board.

One of the most lightweight double strollers on our list, this fashionable tri-fold model is able to hold children up to 40lbs each. It also has a handy basket in between the seats to store things. Home users loved its large canopy with windows that peek out with multi-position reclining seats as well as front and rear suspension for smoother rides on rough terrain. It also comes with an easy-to-use cup holder for parents as well as an enormous accessible, easily accessible basket. They did note that the backs have small pockets, which are only large enough to hold a phone and a set of keys.

This premium, lightweight side-by-side can be used in more than 20 different configurations and includes two seats and a carrycot. It has a high-profile steering handlebar, front and rear suspensions to smooth out rough terrain, a compact fold that can stand on its own with straps that make it easy to transport, and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks and ten-inch back wheels with suspensions for more comfortable riding. The only drawback is that you'll have to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.

This multi-functional tandem is a top choice among our home testers for its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that can be accessed with both seats in the parent-facing position. Its light weight (about the same as some single pushchairs) makes it a breeze to move around. Many have praised the clever method of attaching the second seat or riding board in the back. Parents also liked the fact that it could accommodate infant car seats and carriers from a variety of brands, including some which aren't usually fit in other double buggies.
